The Windsor Stars made their first trip back to the Canadian Men's National Championships since 2013 this year in Sydney. The result in 2013 was a gold medal in front of their home fans in Windsor. This year in Sydney, the Stars ran the table going 5-0 and capturing the gold medal once again in front of a crowd of about 700 noisy fans at Susan MacEachern Memorial Field.

In the round robin, the Stars defeated Team Alberta (Edmonton Cubs) by a score of 7-3 on Thursday evening. Jack Zimmerman went the distance on the hill for the win while catcher Matt Deneau and 1st baseman Colin Robinson both belted home runs in the win. On Friday, the Stars got another complete game effort this time from Tecumseh pick-up Chris Horvath as they defeated Team Nova Scotia (Dartmouth Dry) by a score of 5-3. Matt Deneau homered again while Jake Lumley had a 2-RBI single.

Moving onto Saturday now, the Stars had a date with Team Manitoba (Elmwood Giants). The Stars once again leaned on one of their pick-ups as Travis Keyes of the Ilderton River Hawks spun a complete game gem leading to the 9-2 victory in this game. Anthony Dufour belted a home run in this game and had 2 RBI while Matt Deneau stayed hot with a pair of hits and two more RBI. At 3-0, the Stars now had a bye into the semi-finals the following day.

After the dust settled on a couple of exciting quarter-final games, the Stars would once again face the Elmwood Giants in the national semi-final game. The Giants were coming off of an 11 inning thriller in the quarters and simple ran out of gas in this one as Windsor took an 8-0 lead after two innings and never looked back winning 11-1 in six innings. Josh Shepley fired five solid innings with veteran Dane Little closing out the 6th. Andrew Wasyluk and Mitch Hudvanger each had 3 RBI for the Stars.

This put Windsor in the national championship game and another date with the Dartmouth Dry as they defeated Team NB 5-0 in their semi-final game. Kimani Bailey drew the starting assingment for Windsor while Cody Shrider toed the slab for Dartmouth. Both pitchers were cruising through four innings as there was no score in this one. The Dry had multiple opportunities to cash in but couldn't get that big hit when they needed it.

The Stars finally broke through in the 5th inning with the first run of the game on a throwing error. In the 6th, Jack Zimmerman would enter the game and toss a clean inning. Windsor would tack on two more runs in the 6th and then Zimmerman tossed another clean 1-2-3 inning to give the Stars a 3-0 victory and the 2022 National Title. Kimani Bailey would be the winning pitcher while Zimmerman collected the save.

Congrats to long time head coach Ron Smith and the whole Windsor coaching staff as well as all of the players from the 2022 roster for this tremendous accomplishment. Congrats as well to head coach Bobby Gillis and the whole Dartmouth Moosehead Dry orgainzation on a fantastic run at this year's tournament as well. Big shout out to Team NB (Charlottetown Islanders) as well as they captured the bronze medal; PEI's first medal at the Men's National Tournament in 50 years.
