CABC Men's AAA Top 10 Rankings (June 26th, 2023)
6/26/2023by CABC Admin

We had so much fun with this last time that we decided to make this a bi-weekly deal for the season. We will now release our 2nd edition pof the CABC Men's AAA Top 10 Rankings. The list is meant to have some fun and grow the sport of baseball at the Men's AAA level.

I have done as much scouring of webpages as I can to try and make the rankings as legit as possible. I have used regular season stats for all teams (no tournament stats). The number at the end of each team in brackets is their ranking from last week if they were on the list. So with out further ado he we go...

Honorable Mentions

*Calgary Rockies (7-5; Sunburst League) (HM)

*Red Deer Riggers (7-4; Sunburst League) (7)

*Burlington Brants (7-4; COBA Major League) (NR)

*Pirates de St Jean sur Richelieu (7-3; Ligue de Quebec) (NR)

*Castors d'Acton Vale (8-4; Ligie de Quebec) (NR)

#10 - Thornhill Reds (9-4; 1st Place Greater Toronto League) (8)

The Thornhill club still sits in first place in the GTBL by a couple of games over the Ajax Spartans (6-6) After a red hot 8-1 start and a 2nd place finish at the Tillsonburg Tournament, the Reds went 3-3 over the past couple of weeks in league regular season action. Even with injuries, Thornhill has continued to shine and once they get some bodies back will have an even more dangerous team to deal with.

#9 - Cactus de Victoriaville (8-2; 2nd Place Ligue de Quebec) (HM)

The Cactus have had a very imprressive season to date in the LBMQ. After starting off the year at 2-2, Victoriaville have now rattled off 6 wins in a row including going 3-0 over the last couple of weeks since our last rankings. This solid play has vaulted them into 2nd place in the league behind a very good Cascades de Shawinigan club. The team is getting some big performances from their pitching as well as their hitters too. They should continue be a very dangerous team to deal with season.

#8 - Edmonton Cubs (9-3; 1st Place Sunburst League) (9)

The Cubs have been on a bit of a tear since we posted our last rankings. They went 3-0 in that two week period and currently lead the pack in the Sunburst League in Alberta. They also made it to Sunday of the St Albert Tigers Invitational Tournament and were set to play in the final of that tournament until it was washed away by rain. Edmonton seems to be catching fire at the right time of the season and could be a very dangerous team to contend with going forward.

#7 - Charlottetown Islanders (10-2; 1st Place New Brunswick League) (10)

The boys from the Island are starting to make their way up this list pretty quickly. Since the last rankings were released, they went 3-1 in league play during the two week period and have firmly planted themselves in 1st place in the New Brunswick loop 3.5 games ahead of the Saint John Alpines (5-5). Offensively, the Isles have been tough to slow down as they have put up 86 runs in 12 games (7.2 runs/game). The veteran picthing staff has been sharp this year as well allowing 45 runs in 12 games.

Jordan Stevenson (1-0, 1 Sv, 12 1/3 Inn, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 20 K, 0.00 ERA)

#6 - Dartmouth Mooseheads (7-1; 1st Place Nova Scotia League) (6)

The Mooseheads have been having another solid season so far this summer. They are currently sitting with a 7-1 record good for top spot in the Nova Scotia loop. A good portion of their schedule has been hampered by rain and the wildfires that were happening in Nova Scotia earlier in the month. Once their schedule picks up, if they can keep up this pace, the 2022 Canadian Silver medlaists should find themselves climbing up this list. After a tough playoff loss last year to the Kentville Wildcats, the Mooseheads are out to prove a point that that was just a small blip on the radar.

Top Hitters

*Jack Fader (10-for-28, .357, 6 R, 4 2B, 13 RBI)

*Jake MacKinnon (14-for-29, .483, 8 R, 2B, 4 RBI

*Chris Thibideau (12-for-24, .500, 17 R, 2 2B, HR, 6 RBI)

Top Pitchers

Matt Bradley (2-0, 13 Inn, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 5 BB, 20 K, 2.69 ERA)

Anthony McKinley (1-0, 1 Sv, 8 Inn, 5 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 8 K, 0.00 ERA)

Sean Hubley (1-0, 11 Inn, 9 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 13 K, 1.27 ERA)

#5 - Cascades de Shawinigan (11-1: 1st Place Ligue de Quebec) (4)

The Cascades conitnue to be the cream of the crop in Quebec as they continue to sit atop the league standings into the end of June. Even though they suffered their first loss during this two week stretch, they have been dominant so far in the season going 3-1 since our last post and sit at 11-1 overall. The Cascades boast a good balance of offense and pitching which has led to their success so far. After a bit of a hiccup in the 2022 playoffs, they are out to make a point in 2023.

*Ismeal Ballard (14-for-27, .518, 9 R, 2 HR, 14 RBI)

*Christopher St. Pierre (1-1, 1 Sv, 18 Inn, 17 H, 12 R, 8 ER, 2 BB, 14 K, 3.11 ERA)

#4 - Tecumseh Thunder (12-2; 1st Place Can-Am League) (1)

The Thunder fall from the number one spot over all after a bit of a rough go at the Lakeside Tourmament in London. The club remains strong in league play as they went 2-1 in league play but that loss was to the Windsor Stars. Their record sits at 12-2 in league play but an 0-2 result in London hurt their ranking a bit. The Thunder are still among the elite in the country but will need to make up some ground in the next month and have a really good showing at the Men's AAA Elimination Tournament in August to climb back up the list.

Top Hitters

*Paul Lamantia (14-for-41, .341, 8 R, 3 2B, HR, 12 RBI)

*Ross Barker (18-for-47, .383, 13 R, 4 2B, HR, 8 RBI)

*Chris Horvath (1-2, 1 Sv, 23 Inn, 15 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 6 BB, 19 K, 2.43 ERA)

#3 - Sarnia Brigade (10-1; 1st Place Southwestern League) (3)

The Brigade maintain their #3 ranking overall in the country. after a quiet two weeks of league play (1-0 in that time) they have performed well in tournament play finishing 2nd place in Vaughan and went 2-1 in London but missed out on the playoff round by a couple of defensive runs. The Sarnia club boasts a very deep lineup that can hit the baseball and have arguably one of the deepest pitching staffs in Ontario and Canada. Like Tecumseh, they will have a month of league play leading into the Ontario Men's AAA Elimination tournament at the end of July.

#2 - Etobicoke Rangers (13-0; 1st Place COBA Major League) (5)

The Rangers make the most significant jump of this edition of the rankings and deservingly so as they are starting to cement themselves as a very, very tough team to beat. The Rangers went 4-0 since the last posting of the rankings two weeks ago. They also added a Lakeside Tournament title this weekend in London going 4-0 there against some of the best talent in Ontario. Offensively, they are a very deep team with everyone being a threat at the plate (173 Runs scored in 13 league games). Their pitching has been giving them quality starts and they will need more of that in order to continue to be successful.

#1 - Windsor Stars (11-4; 2nd Place Can-Am League) (2)

The Windsor Stars have claimed the top spot this week for our rankings. The defending Canadian champions had a good couple of weeks in league play going 4-0 to run their record to 11-4; a game and a half behind the Thunder. The Stars also have a tournament victory under their belts as they ran the table at the Vaughan Vikings Tournament going 5-0. After a bit of a lull in early June, the Stars seem to be finding a new gear as they ramp up for the Men's AAA Eliminations here in Ontario. Look for them to have a good shwoing at this tournament with a deep pitching staff and many offensive threats in their lineup.

*Noah Renaud (16-for-44, .364, 16 R, 3 2B, 6 RBI)

Next rankings will come out after the Hap Walters Tournament in Ontario as well as a ton of league play acorss the country. Hope everyone enjoys the reading!!
