CABC Men's AAA Top 10 Rankings (July 10th, 2023)
7/10/2023by CABC Admin

We will now release our 3rd edition of the CABC Men's AAA Top 10 Rankings. The list is meant to have some fun and grow the sport of baseball at the Men's AAA level.

I have done as much scouring of webpages as I can to try and make the rankings as legit as possible. I have used regular season results and stats for all teams as not all teams take part in tournaments in their province. The number at the end of each team in brackets is their ranking from last week if they were on the list. So with out further ado he we go...

Honorable Mentions

*Red Deer Riggers (9-5; Sunburst League) (HM)

*Castors d'Acton Vale (9-5; Ligue de Quebec) (HM)

*Burlington Brants (9-4; COBA Major League) (HM)

*Regina Rockies (9-1; Qu'Appelle Valley League) (NR)

*Thornhill Reds (10-6; Greater Toronto League) (10)

#10 - Pirates de St Jean sur Richelieu (9-4; 3rd Place Ligue de Quebec) (HM)

The Pirates crack into the top 10 this week after being an honorbale mention two weeks ago on our list. The St Jean club had a bit of a slow start but seem to be coming on strong now. They went 2-1 since our last update and now sit at 9-4 on the season leading the Louisville Slugger Division in the Ligue Baseball Majeur de Quebec. They are 3rd overall in the league sitting a 1/2 game behind Victoriaville and 3 1/2 games behind league leading Shawinigan. The Pirates have a busy next couple of weeks with 5 games on their schedule including a game against Acton Vale where they will look to create some space betwen themselbves and the Castors.

#9 - Edmonton Cubs (9-4; 1st Place Sunburst League) (8)

The Cubs had a fairly quiet couple of weeks as they only had one game during this time frame. They dropped a tough game 8-2 against their division mates from Sherwood Park. The A's currently sit a 1/2 game behind the Edmonton club now for top spot in the Sunburst League. The Cubs have a big stretch of games coming up as they have two games left against Sherwood Park and a pair of games against a tough Calgary Rockies club so this team will get a pretty good test as they get closer to their league playoffs in early August. They will be looking to ramp up their play and get ready for a deep run into the Sunburst playoffs.

#8 - Cactus de Victoriaville (10-4; 2nd Place Ligue de Quebec) (9)

The Cactus have had a pretty good couple of weeks since we last updated our rankings. After going 2-2 over the course of this time frame, they continue to sit in 2nd place overall in the league 3 games behind the Shawinigan club. Victoriaville has made their stadium a tough place to play in as they are currently a perfect 9-0 at home vs a 1-4 record on the road. They will get a bit of a test over the course of the next couple of weeks as they have a pair of games on the road this weekend followed by a big game at home against Shawinigan on July 21st. The club will look to try and gain some ground on Shawinigan in that time to climb towards the top of the LBMQ.

With the rain finally letting up a little bit on the East Coast, The Mooseheads have finally been able to get some league games under their belt. They still had a few games that were wiped out by the wet stuff but they did manage to get a 3-game set in this past weekend against the Sydney Sooners. After running into a red hot Reilly O'Rourke in game 1, losing 8-3, they won both parts of a double header on the Saturday to run their league leading record to 9-2 on the year now. Dartmouth has three games coming up over the next couple of weeks including a pair of big games against the reigning NSSBL champion Kentville Wildcats

#6 - Charlottetown Islanders (12-3 1st Place New Brunswick League) (7)

The Charlottetown club continues to run the New Brunswick loop as they extneded their lead atop the standings since out last post. Over the course of those two weeks, the club went 2-1 as they swept a twin bill from the defending NB champion Saint John Alpines before dropping a tough 4-3 decision to moncton the next night. The Islanders are getting some great efforts on both sides on the field currently. Their offense has been red hot as of late and they have been getting some great pitching and defense as well. With all of the rain out east, they have a very busy next two weeks with seven games coming up. Should be a good test for the team to see where they are when the dust settles.

#5 - Windsor Stars (12-6; 2nd Place Can-Am League) (1)

The Stars take a bit of a slide this time as they had a little bit of a rough go over the past couple of weeks. They ended up going 1-2 in league play with both losses coming to their long time rivals from Tecumseh. Even with the drop in the standings, the Stars are still a very dangerous team. They are working a few players back into the mix after they have been off due to injury extended periods of time. Look for them to catch fire again and be a very dangerous team in the near future. They are closing in on the end of their regular season and have four games left including one more meeting with Tecumseh at Lacasse Park before they head into the Elimination Tournament here in Ontario the long weekend in August.

*Noah Pickering (2-1, 19 Inn, 12 H, 11 R, 9 ER, 8 BB, 19 K, 3.32 ERA)

#4 - Sarnia Brigade (11-1; 1st Place Southwestern League) (3)

The Brigade take a small slide in this week's rankings still remain one of the elite teams in the country. They once again had a very quiet week in league play as they only played one game but defeated the Strathroy Royals by a score of 7-4 in that game. As seen by their stats, the Brigade pitching staff has been dominant this year holding opponents to just 66 runs in 12 games. Their offense has been hot as well plating 150 runs in those same 12 games making them a tough out every game. The Brigade has a busy stretch of 6 games coming up over the next two weeks including a pair of games against the Royals and the Ilderton Riverhawks as well which should be a good test for the team heading into the Elimination Tournament here in Ontario.

#3 - Tecumseh Thunder (17-3; 1st Place Can-Am League) (4)

After being bounced from the top spot a few weeks ago, the Thunder make a small jump back to #3 in this week's rankings. After having a rough go at the London Tournament and in league play, Tecumseh came back strong over the past two weeks going 5-1 in league play including a pair of wins over the Windsor Stars. In these games, the bats have been starting to come around for the Thunder but their pitching has really stepped up and been sharp in these games. They now have four games left in their regular season schedule including one more game against the Stars and will use those games to prepare for the Elimination Tournament in a few weeks.

Shawinigan makes the biggest jump of the week as they continue to lead the Ligue Baseball Majeur de Quebec standings with an impressive 14-1 record. Since our last post, the club went 3-0 in league play to stretch their lead overall in the loop to three games over Victoriaville. The Cascades have been hitting the baseball a ton as they have put up 125 runs in their 15 games played so far. Their pitching staff has been impressive as well as they have allowed a league low 48 runs. They will get a bit of a test over the next couple of weeks as they have 7 games coming up including a pair of games against 2nd place Victoriaville.

#1 - Etobicoke Rangers (15-0; 1st Place COBA Major League) (2)

The Etobicoke club finally makes the jump to the top spot in the country after another impressive stretch of play. Arguably, they could have been here in our last rankings but we gave the nod to the Windsor Stars that week. The Rangers have been an impressive bunch this year as they hve seamlessly flown through competition here in Ontario thus far. They were 2-0 in league play since our last posting and have been one of the biggest offensive threats as a team in Canada putting up 190 runs in league play. Their pitching and defense has also been solid as well only allowing 88 runs overall. With five games coming up plus the Hap Walters Tournament in July this will be a good test for Etobicoke as they hopefully prepare for a deep run at the Elimination Tournament in August.
