The long weekend in May is always a busy one as a number of league across the country will open play this weekend to get their 2025 season underway.
In Nova Scotia, the defending champion Dartmouth Dry will open their 2025 season has they make the short trek to Mainland Commons in Halifax to take on the Metro Brewers on May 16th. On the 18th, the newly rebranded Halifax Mets (former Pelham Canadians) will take on the Metro Brewers in the battle of Halifax at 2pm also at Mainland Commons. The Sydney Sooners and Kentville Wildcats are also back in the loop in 2025 and will open their seasons following the long weekend.
In New Brunswick, all five clubs will see action on the Victoria Day long weekend. The Chatham Ironmen will travel to Prince Edward Island to take on the Charlottetown Islanders who will be looking for their 3rd straight NB/PEI League title in 2025. On Sunday, the 2024 league finalists the Moncton Mets will opening their season against the Saint John Alpines at Kiwanis Park at 4pm in an early afternoon matinee. On the holiday Monday, the new look Fredericton Royals will travel to the port city to take on Saint John in a 2pm start at Memorial Field.
Moving further west, in Manitoba, the Border Baseball League will kick off their 2025 season with a trip of games on May 16th. The Baldur Regals will travel to Clearwater Field to take on the Clearwater club in one game. Meanwhile, the newly formed expansion club the Holland A's will see their first ever Border League action as they take on the defending champions the Cartwright Twins at Waldie Field. The final game that day will see the Morden Mud Hens host the Carman Cardinals at Buhler Field. All games are slated for a 7pm opening pitch.
Two other leagues that we follow, the South West League in Manitoba and the Qu'Appelle Valley Baseball League in Saskatchewan will both open play for the 2025 season the following weekend.
